The importance of thinking long term

This article is about one of my favorite topics: the importance of thinking long term.

Anybody who's worked with me will know that I go on and on about this, but that's because it's so important. One of the most common mistakes we see is that people try to get the divorce over with. They want to finish the negotiations. They want to move on with their lives, understandably. The problem is they have to live with that arrangement for years to come.

So make sure that what you're agreeing to works for you in the long term. When it comes to the child arrangements, try and think ahead. Your children may be small now, but they won't always be. What are you going to do when they go to secondary school, when they start having sleepovers,
when they need a phone? Think ahead to all those things and try to plan for them as much as you can, this will avoid a whole lot of issues later on.

I completely understand the urge to finish up with your divorce as soon as possible. Everybody feels that way. But make sure that you're not signing just anything to be able to move on with your life.
